Resolution of disorientation and amnesia during post-traumatic amnesia.
OBJECTIVES Despite the growing number of instruments for the prospective measurement of post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) after traumatic brain injury, fundamental issues about the natural history of its resolution and methods of examination remain unresolved. The aims of the present study were to: (1) examine the sequence of resolution of disorientation and amnesia, and (2) determine if the method ...
متن کاملPredicting Post Traumatic Amnesia Patients'
The head injured (HI) population demonstrates a wide variety of impairment from person to person. Within single individuals the nature and severity of the injury can change rapidly as healing progresses. These complex cognitive, emotional, language and physical deficits often present cognitive rehab team members with diagnostic, prognostic, and treatment challenges (Hagen, 1981; Rollin, 1987). ...
متن کاملPost Traumatic Amnesia and Alcohol Dependence*
Post-traumatic amnesia was found to be prolonged in those who were alcohol dependents prior to the head injury. A comparison with controls who were matched for age and severity of head injury indicated that the PTA in the alcoholics was significantly longer. The pathophysiologic changes in the alcoholic brain that could explain such variations are discussed in the light of recent findings.

OBJECTIVES to provide our initial experience with ziprasidone in the management of behaviour problems of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) during the period of post-traumatic amnesia (PTA). PATIENTS Five patients with a mean age of 26.8 +/- 9.8 years who had suffered a severe TBI (Glasgow Coma Scale score < 8; length of coma: 16 +/- 7.1 days; and length of PTA: 62.4 +/- 14.8 days) we...
متن کاملMeasuring the duration of post traumatic amnesia.
A simple quantitative test is described for measuring the duration of post-traumatic amnesia. It was used in a study of 336 patients with closed head injury; and the results matched closely the independent estimates of experienced neurosurgeons. A systematic procedure of this kind is clinically useful in its sensitivity to fluctuations or deterioration in the patient's mental state. It could al...
